Over M€ 8 for Dresden-based sensor technology start-up Senorics GmbH

TGFS

Dresden based start-up Senorics GmbH has successfully completed a Pre-Series A funding round, in which TGFS Technologiegründerfonds Sachsen is once again participating. In total, more than € 8 million was raised in the current round. This now enables necessary investments to scale the technology of the company’s innovative ingredient analysis sensors to industrial scale. New investors include FIDURA Private Equity Funds as lead investor and ZEISS Ventures. In addition to TGFS, Ventura Investment as well as TU Dresden Aktiengesellschaft (TUDAG), who have been involved since 2018 (seed financing), also invested a significant amount in Senorics once again.

The Saxon start-up is a specialist for novel near-infrared spectroscopy sensors. These are smaller than a 1‑cent coin and can therefore also be integrated into household appliances or smartphones. They enable non-contact analyses of ingredients that previously only worked using large spectrometers in the laboratory. In infrared spectroscopy, a material or liquid is irradiated with infrared light. Based on the wavelength distribution of the reflected light, ingredients can be detected and their contained quantity determined. Industrially, this technique therefore also allows process monitoring or quality control by detecting impurities, for example.

For Dr. Ronny Timmreck, one of the founders of Senorics GmbH, the now successfully completed funding round is a big step towards realizing Senorics’ vision. „Thanks to our small, high-performance infrared sensors, everyone should benefit from the advantages of material analysis in the future. We are delighted about the trust our existing investors have placed in us. With FIDURA and ZEISS, we now also have two more experienced investors at our side, who will optimally support us in the next step of scaling our technology to industrial scale.“ Senorics is currently working on the construction of a pilot plant, which will be ready before the summer. The company is receiving support from the Dresden Integrated Center for Applied Physics and Photonic Materials (IAPP) at TU Dresden. This important milestone was made possible by funding from the Sächsische Aufbaubank as part of the „KETs Pilot Lines“ (Key Enabling Technologies) key technology program. „The pilot line is now an important starting point for the further scaling of our technology,“ explains Timmreck.

„We are pleased to accompany the future development of Senorics together with the previous investors and now also FIDURA and ZEISS. Since our entry in 2018, the company has developed magnificently. With fresh money, the experience of all investors as well as the know-how of the Senorics team, we are convinced that the further scaling and the way to mass production will succeed,“ Sören Schuster, Managing Director of TGFS about this funding round. TGFS is one of the most active VC funds in Germany and focuses on Saxony. Since its foundation in 2008, it has supported more than 80 start-ups in the Free State. It also invests — as in the case of Senorics — in early phases.
