Sunmaxx PVT GmbH announces the joint financing round of TGFS Technologiegründerfonds Sachsen and MAHLE New Ventures in the amount of M€ 3.25. MAHLE New Ventures has been a technology and financing partner since the end of 2021. TGFS will now support the company’s further development as a local institutional financing partner. With the newly acquired capital, the team plans to expand, develop the technology, and enter the market. The primary goal of the financing round is to establish a 50 MW production line in Saxony, with production scheduled to commence during the second half of the year.

Unlike conventional PV modules, which only generate electricity, the PVT modules developed by Sunmaxx enable the concurrent generation of electricity and usable heat. „Efficiency is at the heart of the energy transition,“ emphasizes Dr. Wilhelm Stein, founder and CEO of Sunmaxx, „Our PVT modules elevate the utilization of solar energy to an unprecedented level with a comprehensive efficiency of 80 %, all while meeting economic demands. Our modules form a critical component for the total decarbonization of the electricity and heat requirements in industrial areas, neighborhoods, and commercial buildings. They can be integrated into cold local heating networks, which is an exciting application area.“ For the implementation, Sunmaxx is collaborating with a strong partner network to offer entirely CO2-free solutions. The first reference plants are already operational.

A key differentiator of Sunmaxx’ PVT modules from those of other suppliers is its advanced heat exchanger technology to extract usable heat from the modules. This technology is based on MAHLE’s advanced thermal management solutions, enabling Sunmaxx to utilize a cost-optimized and highly scalable technology from the automotive industry. Consequently, their modules are more affordable, but also more compact and lighter than existing PVT modules. „We see Sunmaxx PVT on a strong growth trajectory. With its distinct technology, the company can enhance the efficiency of solar energy usage. With our expertise in thermal management, we are making a significant contribution to its success,“ says Johannes Diem, Head of Corporate Planning Innovation at MAHLE New Ventures.

„The solar industry in Germany and Europe has seen a significant upswing in the past two or three years — not least due to innovative business models and services. However, to achieve the energy transition, there is a need for new an fundamental technologies,“ describes Sören Schuster, Managing Director of TGFS, and continues „We see a significant opportunity to relocate some of the solar value chain in Europe, utilizing a technology that is years beyond the competition. We are very pleased to accompany this development here in Saxony together with the very experienced teams from Sunmaxx PVT and MAHLE New Ventures.“
